The MOSE system, along with a wide range of other measures implemented in the lagoon and on the islands along the coast, has effectively protected Venice from the rising sea levels and tidal phenomena since October 2020, making it a best practice at the global level for protecting cities from these issues.

During the inauguration of the Sustainability Biennale, the progress made in recent years towards making Venice a safer city and a model for other cities around the world facing similar problems will be presented. Additionally, other defense systems in Europe and around the world will be presented, and their operational experience will be discussed in a workshop attended by those directly responsible for their management, alongside international experts.

The agenda will be completed with interventions from authoritative representatives of local, national, and European institutions.
